Shiva Panchakshara Stothra was composed by Adi Shankaracharya praising Lord Shiva and the power of the five sacred syllables Na Ma Shi Va Ya which also represents the five elements earth, fire, water, air and space.

 

Naagendra Haaraya Trilochanaaya

Bhasmanga Ragaya Maheshwaraya

Nithyaaya Shudhaaya Digambaraaya

Tasmai  'Na' Kaaraya Namashivaya

 

Mandakini Salila Chandana Charchithaya,

Nandeeshwara Pramadha Naadha Maheswaraya,

Mandara Pushpa Bahu Pushpa Supoojithaya,

Tasmai ‘Ma’kaaraya Namashivaya.

 

Shivaaya Gowri Vadanaabja Vrinda,

Sooryaya Daksha Dwara Naashakaya,

Sri Neela Kantaya Vrishadwajaya,

Tasmai ‘Shi’kaaraya Namashivaya.

 

Vasishta Kumbhodhbhava Gowthamaarya

Muneendra Devarchitha Shekaraaya,

Chandrarka Vaiswanara Lochanaya,

Tasmai ‘Va’kaaraya Namashivaya.

 

Yaksha Swaroopaya Jada Dharaya,

Pinaka Hasthathaya Sanathanaya,

Divyaya Devaaya Digambaraya,

Tasmai ‘Ya’kaaraya Namashivaya.

 

Phalasruthi

 

Panchaksharamidham Punyam,

Ya padeth Shiva Sannidhou,

Shivaloka Mavaapnothi,

Shive Na Saha Modathe.
